The Light Was Placed, Not Passed
The morning light hits the kitchen table, and you put on the mask of okayness while the silence screams a terrible question: did I pass this brokenness down? You look at your child and see your own blood, your own flaws, written into their small body.
But listen — the light does not trace lineage through your mistakes. There is a father who saw his son coming home from a long way off, still covered in the filth of his own choices, and ran.
Before the apology, before the speech — he ran. That running is the only inheritance that matters.
The light that lives in your child was there before your first error, and it will be there after your last regret. It was not passed down by you; it was placed within them by a love that makes no mistakes.
You are not the source of their darkness; you are simply the one who gets to watch the light rise in them, even today.
