The Silence Is What Explodes
The message lights up your screen. 'Are you okay?' And your chest tightens like a fist closing around a live wire.
You know the truth inside you is heavy, sharp, and dangerous to hand over. So you type the word that keeps the peace: 'Fine.' You smile at your desk.
You nod in the meeting. You perform the version of yourself that fits neatly into the morning light.
But behind the mask, you are holding your breath, terrified that if you speak the real answer, you will blow everything up. You are afraid your pain is too much for them to hold.
Yet the light does not flinch at your honesty. It does not run from the grenade.
It stands in the room with you, waiting not for your performance, but for your presence. You do not have to protect them from your truth.
The only thing that explodes is the silence you've been keeping.
