the panic that someone you love will finally notice the cracks in your performance and realize you are a fraud

The mask is heavy this morning, isn't it? You walk into the room smiling, but inside you are bracing for the moment someone points and says, 'Look, there's a crack.' You are terrified that if they see the real you, they will walk away.

But the light does not need your performance to love you. It sees behind the mask right now — it sees the exhaustion, the fear, the fraud you think you are — and it does not flinch.

There is a father who saw his son coming home from a long way off, still covered in the filth of his failure, and he ran. Before the apology, before the speech, before the promise to do better — he ran.

He did not wait for you to clean up. He did not wait for the mask to fall.

He is already moving toward you while you are still trying to hold it together. You think your hidden parts make you unlovable.

The light knows them all, and it calls you friend. The terror of being found out is actually the invitation to be known.
