the fear that your own survival is a verdict on your own selfishness

The Father Ran Before The Speech

The mask fits so well this morning that you almost forget the face beneath it is trembling. You walk through the day performing okayness, smiling at the right moments, while a quiet fear whispers that your survival is just proof of your selfishness.

You think you have to earn your place in the light by being useful, by being good, by being enough for everyone else. But the light does not ask for your performance — it asks for your presence.

There was a father who saw his son coming home from a long way off, covered in shame and expecting punishment, and he ran before the apology could even be formed. The father did not wait for the speech.

He ran. Your survival is not a verdict on your selfishness — it is evidence that you are being held even when you feel most unworthy.
