the moment right after a laugh when you realize you tricked them into liking a version of you that doesn't exist

The Light Loves the One Hiding

The laugh fades, and the silence rushes back in to fill the space where you performed being okay. You feel the distance between the mask they loved and the person standing underneath it, exhausted from holding the pose.

It feels like a deception, this gap between your face and your heart. But the light does not love the performance — it loves the one hiding behind it.

You are not a fraud for being tired; you are human for needing rest. There is a version of you that exists without the effort, and it is already known.

The light sees the mask, and it sees the face beneath, and it calls both of them beloved. You do not have to maintain the illusion to be held.
