The Light Is Already In The Room

The house is quiet now, the noise of the day finally settling into the floorboards. You stand in the kitchen doorway, hand on the light switch, staring into the dark cupboard where the old comfort waits.

You are already rehearsing the excuse you will tell yourself tomorrow for why you need it just one more time. But the light does not require your justification to reach you.

It knows the hunger that isn't about food. It knows the thirst that isn't about the cup.

There is a spring of water welling up inside you that has nothing to do with what you keep in the dark. You do not have to open the door to be held.

The light is already standing in the room with you, waiting for you to turn around and see that you are full.
