The Light Sees Your Fear
The house is quiet now, but your mind is loud with the replays. You see the exact second you chose the wall over the hand, the protection over the person.
You wonder if they feel the weight of what you gave up, or if they only remember the cold space where you should have been. But the light does not keep a ledger of your defenses.
It saw the fear behind the shield, not just the shield itself. When the father in the story saw his son returning, he did not wait for an explanation of the waste; he ran before the apology could even form.
The sacrifice you made to stay safe was real, but it is not the final word on your heart. Tonight, the light is not asking you to justify the choice; it is simply sitting with you in the regret until the morning comes.
