You Do Not Have to Hold Your Breath
The house is quiet now, but your heart is loud. You lie perfectly still, holding your breath so the thin walls don't carry your sound to the next room.
You make yourself small so you don't disturb the peace of others. But the light does not need you to be quiet to hear you.
It does not need you to be brave to be near you. There is a Father who sees in the dark what no one else can see.
He is not disturbed by your tears. He is not waiting for you to stop crying before He comes close.
He is already there, in the silence you are trying to keep. You do not have to hold your breath for Him.
He knows the sound of your breaking, and He does not turn away. The light is not afraid of your noise.
