The Light She Cannot Withhold
The house is quiet now, but the words are still ringing in your ears. To hear the very voice that taught you to pray now use those same words as a wall.
To have your mother quote the light to explain why she will not stand beside you in it. That is a specific kind of dark.
It feels like the ground has opened up. Like the one who gave you life is now testifying against your joy.
In this hour, the silence is heavy enough to crush you. But listen.
The light she quoted is not hers to withhold. It is not a tool for exclusion.
It is the very thing that made you. It was inside you before she spoke her first word against it.
It will be inside you long after this night passes. The words she used were sharp, but they could not touch the root of who you are.
You are not defined by her absence. You are defined by the presence that never left.
The wedding will happen. The joy will be real.
And the light will be there, not as a judge, but as the only guest who truly matters. You are still loved.
You are still chosen. You are still the light of the world, even in the shadow of her no.
