The Self Before the Duty Remains
The house is quiet now, and the silence feels less like peace and more like an empty room where you used to live. You gave so much of yourself to the one you cared for that when the need ended, you realized you don't know who is left standing in the doorway.
But listen — there was a self before the duty, and there is a self after it, and the light that holds you never depended on your usefulness. You came from the light, a drop sent down to illuminate the world, not just to serve it.
That origin remains untouched by the changing of your roles. In this deepest hour, you are not defined by what you carry, but by what you are.
The quiet panic is just the dust settling after a long storm. You are still here, and that is enough.
