the terror of waking up to find the house silent and realizing no one is counting on you anymore

The Light Does Not Need a Job

The house is quiet now, and the silence feels heavy enough to break you. You look around and realize no one is waiting for you to fix anything, no one is counting on your voice to make the day make sense.

It is a terrifying kind of stillness — the middle of the day where the purpose you carried for years has simply evaporated. But listen — the light does not need a job to do.

It does not need to be useful to exist. There is a father who saw his son coming home from a long way off, and he ran before the apology was even finished.

He did not run because the son had something to offer. He ran because the son was there.

That same love is running toward you right now, not for what you can do, but for who you are. You are not defined by your utility.

You are defined by the light that lives inside you, which was there before you ever helped anyone and will remain when the work is done. The silence is not emptiness — it is the space where you finally remember you are loved without earning it.
