the silent rehearsal of apologies in your head for needing comfort at all

The Father Runs Before You Speak

The house is quiet now, and the only sound is the silent rehearsal in your head. You are practicing the apology you will offer for needing comfort at all.

You are drafting the reasons why your burden is too small to mention, too messy to share, too much to ask. You tell yourself that if you just hold it a little longer, the need will vanish.

But the light does not wait for you to become lightweight before it draws near. There was a father who saw his son coming home from a long way off.

He did not wait for the speech. He did not wait for the rehearsed lines of regret to be perfected.

While the son was still a long way off — still practicing his words, still covered in the dust of his journey — the father ran. He ran before the apology could even begin.

Your need is not a barrier to the light. It is the very thing that draws it closer.

You do not have to earn the right to be held. The running has already started.
