Let the Face Fall, You Are Held
The house is quiet now, and the bathroom mirror holds a face you do not recognize. You lift the corners of your mouth, practicing a smile that will convince everyone tomorrow that you are fine.
But the eyes in the glass remain heavy, untouched by the gesture. The light does not need that smile to find you.
It is not fooled by the performance you are rehearsing for the morning. In the gathering dark, the Father sees the exhaustion behind the mask and loves what is hidden there.
You do not have to hold the expression a second longer. Let the face fall.
The light is already holding you.
