You Are Not The Reason They Hid
The house is quiet now, and in the silence, a specific terror rises. You are convinced that you are the reason they learned to hide.
That your presence was the danger that taught them to build walls, to swallow their truth, to become small so you wouldn't break. You carry the weight of being the lesson in caution.
But listen — the light that lives inside you was there before the first wall went up. It was there before the first secret was kept.
The father in the story didn't wait for the son to clean up the mess before he ran; he ran while the son was still rehearsing his shame. He ran before the apology could even be formed.
That running wasn't a reaction to the son's return; it was the father's nature all along. You are not the cause of their hiding.
You are the reason they are finally safe enough to stop. The light in you does not punish the mask; it simply waits for the face beneath it to feel safe enough to emerge.
