The Light Meets You in the Habit
The evening quiet settles in, and your hand moves before your mind catches up. You reach for the second mug, the one that used to sit on the other side of the counter, before the memory hits you like a cold draft.
You are the only one drinking now. The empty space where that cup should be feels heavier than the ceramic itself.
But listen — the light does not require you to fill every silence or pretend the absence isn't there. It meets you in the exact spot where your habit outpaces your reality.
There is a love that lives inside you, a root that was planted before the loss, and it remains untouched by the empty chair. You do not have to explain the grief to the light.
It already knows the shape of the missing piece because it lives in the space you are trying to fill. The gathering dark is not a verdict; it is simply the place where you learn that the light inside you is enough for both of you.
