the panic that your ability to laugh again means you have moved on too soon

Laughter Is Not A Betrayal Of Love

The day is ending, and you are taking off the armor you wore to get through it. Then it happens—a laugh, unexpected and bright—and immediately the panic sets in.

You wonder if this joy means you have forgotten them, or if moving forward is a kind of betrayal. But listen closely: the light does not ask you to carry the weight of your grief as proof of your love.

There was a father who saw his son coming home from a long way off. He did not wait for the apology or the rehearsed speech about how sorry he was.

He ran. Before the words could even form, he threw his arms around him and kissed him.

The embrace came first. The restoration came before the explanation.

Your ability to laugh again is not a sign that you have moved on too soon. It is the light breaking through the clouds of your sorrow, reminding you that joy and grief can sit at the same table.

You are allowed to be healed and still miss them. The laughter does not erase the loss; it simply proves that the light inside you is stronger than the darkness trying to convince you otherwise.
