The Light That Does Not Flinch
The day is ending, and the inventory begins. You remember the moment clearly: a neighbor waved, and you flinched.
You saw their hand drop in confusion, and now you are replaying the scene, certain you have broken something that cannot be fixed. The darkness gathers, and it tells you that your reflex has defined you.
But there is a light that does not flinch. It came into the world knowing exactly how we would react, and it did not pull away.
It stayed. The memory of your retreat is real, but it is not the final word.
The light is already walking the path back to that porch, not to explain your fear, but to stand there until the hand rises again. You are not the flinch.
You are the light that remains when the fear has passed.
