the specific terror of seeing someone reach out a hand to help you up, and freezing because accepting it means you can no longer pretend you were standing on your own all along

The Lie of Standing Alone

The day is done, and the armor you wore to keep standing is finally heavy enough to drop. You see the hand reaching out to lift you, and you freeze — not because you don't want help, but because taking it means admitting you were never standing on your own.

The pretense is the only thing holding you up. But listen — when the light sees you trembling on the edge, it does not demand you prove your balance first.

It simply says, 'Take courage. It is I.' The hand is already there.

The grip is secure before you even let go of the lie. You do not have to be the one who stayed upright all day.

You only have to be the one who lets go now.
