He Ran Before You Spoke
The candles are lit, the plates are full, and someone asks you to name your blessing. You feel the panic rise in your throat—the desperate need to invent a small victory just to keep from crying.
You smile and say something safe, something small, while inside you are crumbling. But listen closely.
The light does not need your performance. It does not require a polished story to stay seated at your table.
There is a father who saw his son coming home from a long way off, still covered in the filth of the pig pen, before the apology was even spoken—and he ran. He did not wait for the speech.
He did not wait for the list of improvements. He ran.
The light sees the mask you are holding up with trembling hands, and it loves what is behind it more than the performance. You do not have to manufacture joy to be held tonight.
Your honesty is enough. Your silence is enough.
You are enough, exactly as you are, with no victory to your name but the fact that you are still here.
