The Face Beneath the Mask
The bathroom mirror fogs up, and you trace the shape of a smile that doesn't feel real. You pull the corners of your mouth up until the expression looks believable enough to pass inspection, enough to walk out the door and face the day.
It is exhausting to wear a face that isn't yours, to perform okayness while breaking inside. But there is a light that sees behind the mask.
It does not need the performance. It knows the weariness beneath the paint.
Jesus said, 'The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world.' That light is not dazzled by your smile; it is drawn to the truth underneath it. You do not have to hold the expression for Him.
He sees the real you, the one who is tired, and He calls that person beloved. The mask is for the world, but the face beneath it is for God.
