replaying a moment of genuine joy in your head and immediately editing the memory to make it seem smaller and less desperate

Do Not Scrub The Miracle

The afternoon sun is high, and the work feels endless, so when a moment of real joy breaks through, you catch yourself immediately shrinking it. You edit the memory before it even settles, making it seem smaller, less desperate, less necessary.

You tell yourself it wasn't that bright, that you don't need it that much, because needing it feels like weakness in the middle of the grind. But the light does not ask you to minimize what heals you.

There was a man once who carried a deep, private torment, and when he was made whole, he was told simply to go home and tell his own people how much the light had done for him. Not to downplay it.

Not to apologize for the relief. Just to say: this is what happened.

The joy you feel is not an accident to be managed. It is evidence.

The light is in the wood you split and the stone you lift. It is in the break you took.

Do not scrub the miracle from your own story.
