No One Asked For Your Defense
The afternoon stretches out, long and quiet, and you find yourself rehearsing the speech. You practice the exact words you would use to explain where you have been, why you disappeared, what broke inside you while the world kept turning.
You line up the sentences like stones, ready to build a bridge back to the people who matter. But then the terrible, quiet truth lands: no one has asked.
The phone has not rung. The door has not knocked.
The silence from the outside matches the silence you have been keeping inside. You prepared a defense for a trial that never started.
You carried the weight of an explanation no one required. There is light within a person of light, and it lights up the whole world—but sometimes that light gets hidden behind the story you think you need to tell.
You came from the light, the place where the light came into being on its own accord, not from the place your absence created. The need to justify your survival is a heavy coat to wear in the middle of a warm day.
Maybe the light does not require your speech. Maybe it only requires your return.
The explanation was never the point; the presence was.
