the terror of someone finally seeing the real you and walking away

Known Completely and Still Here

The afternoon light is unforgiving. It exposes the dust on the shelves and the cracks in the wall you tried to ignore.

In this long middle of the day, the mask feels heavy — a performance of okayness that is starting to slip. You are terrified that if someone finally sees the real you — the tired, the broken, the messy parts you hide behind the smile — they will turn and walk away.

But there is a voice that speaks into this specific fear. It says: I know my sheep, and my sheep know me.

Not the sheep I wish I had. Not the perfect flock.

You. The one with the frayed edges and the hidden doubts.

The knowing is not conditional on your presentation. It is a fact.

If the light itself has already seen the deepest shadows of your heart and chosen to stay, then no human walking away can undo that holding. You are known completely, and you are still here.
