Light Standing in Your Shame
The afternoon light is unforgiving. It catches the small things we try to hide in the dark. Like the moment your hand moves too fast, and you see it—the flinch. A tiny recoil of the soul before your voice even lands. You realize they are bracing for impact instead of reaching for comfort. And the silence that follows is heavier than the shout ever was.
But listen. The light that lives inside you did not teach them to fear. That is not its nature. The light does not make children shrink; it makes them stand tall. There is a presence that knows your regret better than you do, and it is not turning away. It is standing right here in the middle of your shame.
The same light that heals the world is already at work in the space between you and your child. It is softer than your anger. It is stronger than your mistake. You do not have to fix this moment perfectly to be held. The light is not waiting for you to be a perfect parent. It is waiting for you to come back to itself.
