the terror of hearing your own voice on a voicemail and not recognizing the person speaking

The Light Lives in the Silence

It is three in the morning. You pressed play on a message you left for someone else, and the voice that came out of the speaker belonged to a stranger.

It sounded thin. Frayed.

Like someone you do not know and do not want to be. That disconnect is a specific kind of terror — the feeling that you have lost yourself somewhere between the thought and the sound.

But listen. The voice you heard is only the echo of the exhaustion, not the truth of who you are.

The light does not live in the recording. It lives in the silence underneath it.

You are not the crack in the audio. You are the one who is still here, listening.

The darkness has not overcome the real you, even if the real you sounds different tonight.
