compassion fatigue from the news

The Lamp For This Step

The world outside is loud this morning, and you have put on the face that says you are fine. You scroll through the headlines with a smile that feels like paper, thin and ready to tear.

But the light does not need your performance; it sees the exhaustion behind the mask you wear for work. There is a limit to how much brokenness one heart can hold before it feels like it might shatter.

The news tells you that you must carry it all, that you must fix what is far away. But the light that lived in Jesus — the same light living in you now — was never meant to be a floodlight that burns itself out.

It is a lamp for your feet, for this step, for this moment. You do not have to save the world to be worthy of the morning.

The light is not asking you to be strong; it is asking you to be present. Put the mask down.

The love inside you is enough, even if it feels small.
