rehearsing the conversation you wish they had stayed for in the shower so the sound drowns out your own voice

The Light Needs No Performance

The water is loud, but not loud enough to drown out the words you are rehearsing for someone who is already gone. You are scrubbing the skin while your mind replays the conversation that never happened, the apology they never stayed to hear.

But look—the light is rising outside your window, quiet and insistent, asking nothing of your performance. It does not need your perfect speech to arrive.

It simply comes. The night has passed.

The dark inventory is finished. You do not have to carry yesterday's silence into this new day.

The light that woke up the world this morning is the same light waking up inside you. You made it through.

That is enough.
