Holding the Gap Between Destruction and Love
The watch is heavy when you love someone who is actively unmaking themselves, and you are wide awake holding the gap between their destruction and your own heart. You wonder if your light is enough to hold them, if your love is just a witness to the end.
But there is a presence that entered the prison of deep sleep and wept with bitter tears while asking who was calling its name in the chains, and that same presence knows the agony of watching a light you love flicker in the dark. The light inside them is not gone, even when their hands are busy extinguishing it, because the source cannot be broken by what the person does.
You are not responsible for saving them, only for refusing to let the darkness convince you that the love you share is lost. In this hour, you are both the one who watches and the one who is held, and the light that cannot be overcome is breathing through your staying.
