The Watch Is No Longer Yours
The terror whispers that if you close your eyes, the door swings open and the darkness gets in. You believe sleep is a failure of vigilance, a surrender of the guard you have held all night.
But the light does not need your exhausted eyes to stay awake to protect you. What you are trying to keep out has already been kept out by a presence that does not sleep.
You are safe not because you are watching, but because you are held. The door is not yours to guard anymore.
The watch has been taken by the one who never blinks. Lay down the weapon.
The night is already won.
