the shame of needing to nap in the middle of the day because last night's vigil stole your ability to function

Rest Without Shame in the Light

The sun is up, but your eyelids feel like they are made of lead. You stayed awake in the dark to watch for the light, and now the daylight feels like an accusation.

The world expects you to be productive, to be sharp, to be functioning. But your body is asking for the one thing you feel you cannot afford: rest.

You carry a quiet shame about needing to lie down, as if your exhaustion is a failure of faith. But listen.

The light does not demand your performance. It knows the cost of the watch you kept.

There is a saying that the kingdom is inside you, not in the sky where the birds fly, but in the quiet, resting place of your own breath. You do not have to earn the right to close your eyes.

The light was there when you were awake, and it is still there now, waiting in the silence of your nap. Lay down the guilt.

The vigil did not steal your ability to function; it gave you a reason to rest.
