the crushing realization that you edited your pain before speaking it to make it palatable for the listener

The Dawn Breaks Over Your Mess

The sun is up, and you are already editing the story of last night. You smoothed the edges of your pain before you spoke it, making it palatable for the ears that heard it.

You swallowed the jagged parts so you wouldn't burden the morning. But the light that is rising now does not need your polished version.

It saw the raw thing you hid. It saw the version you were too afraid to say.

What you think is too broken to speak is the very thing the light is waiting to hold. You do not have to make your suffering presentable for God to receive it.

The dawn breaks over the mess exactly as it lies.
