The Mask Was Never Your Skin
The sun has gone down, and the weight of the performance you wore today feels heavier now than it did at noon. You are afraid that if you keep the mask on for just one more day, it will fuse to your skin, and you will forget who you are underneath.
But the gathering dark is not your enemy; it is the only place where the pretending can finally stop. There is a light that shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
That light does not need your face to look a certain way to find you. It sees you perfectly even when you are too tired to lift your head.
You do not have to hold the shape any longer. The mask was never your skin.
