the terror that your apology will be met with silence, confirming you are alone forever

He Runs Before You Speak

The sun has gone down, and the silence in the room feels heavier than it did this morning. You have rehearsed the words a hundred times—the apology, the admission, the plea—but your thumb hovers over the screen because you are terrified of the one thing you cannot control: the nothing that comes back.

To send the message is to risk the confirmation that you are alone forever. But listen.

There was a father who saw his son coming home from a long way off. He did not wait for the speech to finish.

He did not stand on the porch with his arms crossed, weighing the apology against the hurt. He ran.

Before the first word could land, before the dust could settle, he was already there. The light does not meet your vulnerability with silence.

It meets it with motion. It is already running toward you while you are still afraid to speak.

The darkness gathers, yes, but it cannot drown out the sound of feet rushing to embrace you.
