the loneliness of chronic illness

The Light Walks Straight to You

The silence in this room is heavy enough to crush you. It feels like the illness has built a wall between you and the rest of the world, leaving you alone in the dark with nothing but the pain and the ticking clock.

But listen closely — the light does not need a crowd to exist. It does not need you to be well, or strong, or even awake.

It simply is. There was a man who lay beside a pool for thirty-eight years, forgotten by everyone, too weak to reach the water when it stirred.

He was the most isolated person in the city. And the light walked straight to him.

It did not wait for him to get better. It did not ask him to fix himself first.

It asked one question: do you want to get well? Then it spoke a word that broke the isolation: get up.

The light is not waiting for your body to cooperate. It is already inside the very place where you hurt.

You are not abandoned in this long night. You are being held by the one who knows what it means to suffer in the dark.
