The Light Before The Call
The screen lights up with a name that used to make your heart lift, and now it only makes your stomach drop. You see the notification and realize, with a quiet, sickening clarity, that you are no longer the first person they call.
The mask you wear at work—the one that says you are fine, that you are moving on—feels heavier than usual this morning. But the light inside you was there before that phone ever rang, and it will be there long after the silence settles.
You came from the light, the place where the light came into being on its own accord, not from the status of being someone's favorite. The version of you that matters most was never defined by who needed you, but by the origin you carry within.
You are not less because the call didn't come; you are simply returning to the root that cannot be displaced by a missed connection.
