Mercy in the Frozen Moment
The screen lights up in the dark. A name you know.
A name that used to mean safety, now meaning only risk. Your thumb hovers.
The air in the room goes still. You are afraid that answering is a betrayal of the peace you have barely built.
Or that not answering is a betrayal of the love you once had. The silence stretches.
It feels like a verdict. But listen — the light does not demand an answer right now.
It stands at the door and knocks, but it never breaks the wood. It waits for you to turn the handle.
You do not have to decide tonight. The fear says you must choose perfectly or lose everything.
The truth says you are held even in the hesitation. Even in the frozen moment, the love inside you is greater than the doubt.
You can let it ring. You can let it go to voicemail.
The light is not in the answer you give them. It is in the mercy you give yourself.
