hearing a child's laugh in a crowded room and freezing because your body remembers a sound that no longer exists

The Light That Stands in the Freeze

The room is loud, and then a laugh cuts through the noise — high, bright, unmistakable — and your feet stop moving before your mind knows why. It is a ghost sound.

A memory that hits the body harder than the present ever could. You are standing in the crowded now, but your heart is back in the then, holding something that is gone.

The light does not ask you to walk away from that pain or pretend the sound didn't break you. It stands with you in the freeze.

There is light within a person of light, and it lights up the whole world — even the parts of your world that feel like ruins. That light was there before the laugh existed, and it is still there now that the silence has returned.

You came from the light, and you are walking back toward it, even when your legs feel like stone. The sound you miss is real, but so is the presence holding you upright while you remember.
