the loneliness of success — having everything and feeling nothing

The Light Loves the Face Beneath

The room is full, the calendar is packed, and yet you feel utterly alone behind the smile you wear for everyone. You have climbed the mountain everyone told you to climb, only to find the air up here is thin and cold.

You are performing okayness so well that no one sees the hollow space inside your chest. But the light does not care about your achievements — it only cares about you.

It sees the mask, and it loves the face beneath it. There is a father who saw his son coming home from a long way off — not when he was successful, but when he was broken — and he ran before the apology could even be spoken.

That same love is running toward you right now, not because of what you have, but because of who you are. The light was there before the applause started, and it will be there when the crowd goes home.

You do not have to earn the right to be held. The struggle is not that you are unloved, but that you have forgotten you are already home.
