The Light Sees Behind Your Mask
The question lands lightly in the middle of the day. "How are you?" It is a reflex, a social coin exchanged without weight.
But for you, it is a precipice. You have rehearsed the answer a dozen times before the clock struck noon.
"Fine." "Good." "Busy." You polish the mask until it gleams, terrified that if you speak the truth, the dam will break right there in the breakroom. You carry the hollow ache of holding back an ocean while everyone else talks about the weather.
But the light sees behind the performance. It knows that you are not fine, and it does not ask you to pretend.
There is a peace that does not require you to be okay. A peace that sits with you in the silence of the unspoken grief.
You do not have to earn the right to fall apart. The light is not waiting for your smile; it is already holding the tears you are trying so hard to hide.
The mask is heavy, but you were never meant to wear it forever.
