The Lie You Don't Have To Carry
The phone rings and you rehearse the lie before you answer. You practice the tone that says everything is fine, masking the confusion in her voice so the children won't hear the fear.
You wear the mask of the one who has it together, smoothing over the cracks with a smile they can see but a truth they cannot. But the light does not need your performance to love you.
It sees the exhaustion behind the eyes that are trying so hard to protect everyone else. You are not fooling the One who knows you.
The truth you are hiding is already held. You do not have to carry the weight of the secret alone.
The lie was never your burden to bear.
