the moment after someone offers help and you feel a sudden, crushing urge to push them away before they see how much you actually need them

The Light Stays When Everyone Leaves

The offer lands, and your first instinct is to build a wall. You push them away not because you don't want the help, but because you are terrified they will see the depth of the hole you are in.

If they get too close, they will see how much you actually need them. And that feels like the end of you.

But the light does not run from the mess. It walks right into the center of it.

There was a woman caught in the act, exposed and trembling, waiting for the stone to fall. The accusers left.

The light remained. It did not ask her to clean herself up first.

It simply said: "Neither do I condemn you. Go now." The help you are pushing away is not a trap.

It is the same mercy that stayed when everyone else left. You do not have to be whole to be held.

You only have to stop running.
