apologizing for the space your body takes up when you sit down

You Were Sent To Illuminate

The morning light hits the room and you are already making yourself smaller. You pull your knees in.

You hold your breath. You apologize with your posture for the space your body takes up.

As if your existence is an inconvenience to the air around you. But listen — the light does not squeeze itself into the corners.

It fills the room. It takes up the whole space without asking permission.

There is light within a person of light, and it lights up the whole world. If it does not shine, it is dark.

Your shrinking is not humility. It is darkness hiding the very thing the world needs to see.

You came from the light, the place where the light came into being on its own accord. You were not sent here to be small.

You were sent to illuminate. Sit down.

Take up the space you were made to fill. The chair holds you because you belong here.
