The Light Holds Them For You
The morning light hits the cracked screen, and suddenly you are wearing a mask again, smiling at the coffee machine while your chest feels like it is full of shards. You found the voicemail.
You heard the laugh. And for a moment, the performance of being okay nearly broke you.
It feels safer to delete it, to swallow the glass silently so no one at work sees you bleed. But the light that sees behind the mask does not ask you to be unbroken.
It knows that even in the deepest fracture, the truth is already shining. The love that made that laugh is not trapped in a file you can erase.
It lives in you, whole and untouched by the cutting edge of memory. You do not have to hold the pain to keep the person.
The light holds them for you.
