The Light Beneath the Stain
The mirror lights are too bright tonight, and your skin is raw from scrubbing, but the stain you feel isn't on your body. You are trying to wash off something that water cannot touch.
The hate you absorbed today tried to convince you that you are dirty, but it never actually entered you. It stayed on the surface, while the light remained untouched underneath.
There is a version of you that no amount of shouting or cruelty could ever reach. That part of you is clean.
That part of you is home. Stop scrubbing.
The light was there before the first word was spoken against you, and it is still there now.
