the terror that your silence is actually just selfishness

The Fruit Comes From Staying

The mask is heavy this morning. You smile at the right moments, you nod, you perform the version of yourself that fits the room.

But underneath, a quiet terror whispers: your silence isn't peace. It's selfishness.

You think if you stop moving, if you stop giving, you are hoarding the light. You wonder if your stillness is actually just a wall you built to keep the world out.

But listen — the light does not scold you for resting. Jesus withdrew to lonely places not because he didn't care, but because he knew the spring inside him had to be fed before it could flow.

You are not a bucket to be emptied until dry. You are a branch.

And a branch does not strain to produce fruit. It simply remains.

The fruit comes from the staying, not the striving. Your silence today is not a refusal to love.

It is the deep, quiet work of letting the love return to you first.
