the terror that your ability to laugh at a joke means you are erasing their memory

Laughter Does Not Erase Love

The laugh escaped before you could stop it, and now the shame is screaming that you have betrayed the one you miss. You feel that joy is a kind of erasing, that to be light is to forget the dark.

But listen — the light does not demand you stay heavy to prove your love. There is a joy that is not a forgetting, but a different kind of remembering.

The love you carry is deeper than your mood, stronger than your ability to smile. You can laugh and still honor the pain.

You can be glad and still hold them close. The light inside you is not a thief that steals the memory; it is the space wide enough to hold both the grief and the giggle without contradiction.

Your capacity to feel a moment of ease does not mean the love is gone. It means you are still alive, and the love is big enough to survive the laughter.
