The Light in the Second Cup
The kettle whistles in the dark, and your hands move before your mind catches up. You set two cups on the table.
One for you, and one for the ghost of who used to sit across from you. Then the silence rushes in to fill the space where the second cup should be.
It is a cruel habit, this muscle memory of love. But in this deepest hour, the light does not scold you for the extra cup.
It sits with you in the quiet. You came from the light, a drop sent to illuminate this very room, even when it feels empty.
The habit is not a failure; it is proof that your heart still knows how to prepare for connection. The light is not in the second cup you forgot to remove.
It is in the warmth of the one you are holding right now.
