The Light Runs Before You Speak
The joke has been rehearsed so many times in the quiet of your mind that it feels like a contract you signed with yourself: do not break the silence. To speak it now would feel like a betrayal of the stillness you've kept all evening.
But listen — the light does not demand your silence as a offering. It is not waiting for you to perform wit or to stay small.
There was a father who saw his son coming home from a long way off. He ran.
Before the apology, before the speech — he ran. The light is already moving toward you, not away from your awkwardness.
You do not have to earn the right to be heard by perfecting the delivery. The darkness gathers, yes, but it cannot overcome the sound of your voice when it finally breaks through.
The promise you think you made to stay quiet was never required.
