The Father Runs Before You Speak
The house is quiet now, but your mind is loud with the replay. Every word you said at the table feels like a lie you told, and you are convinced everyone saw through it.
You imagine their pity, their silent judgment, their eyes rolling the moment you turned away. But the darkness exaggerates the crime.
There was a father who saw his son coming home from a long way off — still covered in the filth of his failure, still rehearsing a speech of shame. He did not wait for the truth to be polished.
He ran. Before the apology, before the explanation — he ran.
The light does not wait for you to be perfect. It sees the mess and moves toward it.
You are not fooling anyone, because the light already knows the worst thing you've ever said, and it is still sitting beside you in this chair. The fear says you are exposed.
The truth says you are known. And being known is the only safety you will ever find.
