the hollow feeling of sharing a bed with someone who feels like a stranger

Light Humming in the Hollow Space

The house is quiet now, but the silence between you and the person sleeping beside you feels louder than the night itself. You are sharing the same air, the same blankets, the same darkness, yet they feel like a stranger whose language you have forgotten how to speak.

It is a specific kind of loneliness to be so close to someone and still feel miles away, as if an invisible wall has grown in the space between your shoulders. But listen — the light does not depend on your ability to bridge that gap tonight.

In the Gospel of Thomas, it is written that there is light within a person of light, and it lights up the whole world. That light is humming quietly in the chest of the person you cannot reach right now, just as it is humming in yours.

You do not have to fix the distance before you rest. The light is already present in the hollow space, holding both of you even when you cannot hold each other.

You are not alone in the dark; you are simply waiting for the dawn to reveal what the night has hidden.
